The puppies are here!

From 11:45 to 3:30 last night, Litha whelped 7 males and 2 females. I stayed up almost all night with her and all pups are healthy and doing well.

She’s pretty protective and anxious when the puppies are out of her sight so we’ll get individual pictures posted soon. In the mean time, here’s the proud Momma as she bonds with her babies!

Confirmation, we are having puppies!

Today, Litha had a visit with the vet and had a checkup and an ultrasound to confirm that she was pregnant. We received great news in that the ultrasound revealed at least 6 puppies are growing in her little belly. Congratulations to Litha and Gunnar!

We expect the litter of  Small Munsterlanders to be born around the 20th of May, and ready to go home approximately July 23, 2011.

As you can expect, we are very excited and looking forward to having a house full of puppies. Please contact us if you would like information on the puppies.

Ultrasound from April 12, 2011 showing one of the puppies that is about 2 cm long with the umbilical cord, which is the thin line through the center of the circle.

Long drive, now the wait begins

Last weekend I drove out to Nebraska to drop Litha off for breeding to Hunting Hill’s Gunnar, owned by Pam and Mario Robinson from Robingun Kennels. It was a 10 hour drive and just the beginning of the breeding process… If all goes well, Litha will be bred later this week.

On my trip I stayed with Pam and Mario while Litha got acquainted with staying at their Kennel, which was just built last year. Saturday we went to Hunt Hills Kennels to have a training session with Litha and Gunnar. They planted some quail for the dogs to find and we had a lot of fun working with the dogs.

Pam does most of her training with Gunnar at Hunt Hills Kennels. She is currently training him for the NAVHDA Invitational this September.

She took some great pictures of the dogs working together and here’s one I particularly enjoy. Gunnar is on the left backing Litha on point.
